A Great Horned Owl sits in a fir tree on DNR property.

Owl encounter

By Hillary Sanders

Yellow eyes wide,

Not fearful, but more curious

As crows caw above and

A camera clicks below.

He has little peace during the day, but

At night he preys

In the dark tranquility of the forest.

Shadowed,

Silent, and

Oh so skilled.

His hoot and another's

Serenade

Later that night and

I dream of being close

To them again.
